Health Tip: Importance of Electrolytes
Electrolytes are electrically charged ions that your cells need to carry electrical impulses to other cells to maintain muscle and nerve control. In most heat related situations you won't need to worry about electrolytes if you're getting enough water. But if you begin to feel weak from dehydration you should look for a beverage containing sodium, potassium and magnesium, all of which can help replenish electrolytes. Sports drinks usually contain these minerals, but they also typically contain sugar and flavorings. A great alternative is Coconut Water.
Coconut Water is 100% natural and has 5 essential electrolytes - calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and sodium.
Coconut Water contains more potassium than a banana (potassium helps to regulate blood pressure and heart function) and 15
times the amount of potassium than a regular sports drink without any sugars, fat, cholesterol, preservatives or chemicals.
The next time you're feeling depleted, take a look at what you are using to replenish and make sure it serves as beneficial to you so it doesn't "undo" all your hard work!
After your next class give Coconut Water a try, we sell them for $3 each.
